The cost of a disconnected field record
A 2018 study by FMI for Autodesk estimated that about 14% of all construction rework, roughly one dollar in seven, was caused by bad data. It also put the US rework bill from poor project data and miscommunication at $31.3 billion that year. It is a US study and it is dated, but the mechanism has not changed: a field record that is incomplete, late, or never makes it into the system that matters becomes rework further down the line.
What actually changes
